Considering Braces?  Learn More about Adult Orthodontics

Not too long ago, the thought of adults wearing braces was almost laughable.  But in today’s world, adult orthodontics specialists say that adult braces are becoming more commonplace. This change came about because of the development of braces made from materials other than metal.

Alternatives to metal braces-
•    Ceramic braces that virtually blend with the natural color of your teeth are now available.  Even though discoloration can occur with ceramic braces, your orthodontist can remove discoloration on your monthly visits.
•    Invisalign braces made of invisible plastic have everyone asking for corrective alignment.
•    Orthodontists have even developed fast braces that can cut down the amount of time required for corrective alignment to just a year.  Usually, only individuals with minimum alignment needs are candidates for fast braces.

Cost-
Insurance policies almost never cover the cost of braces, and not everyone can afford the high costs involved in corrective alignment.  Many older adults live on fixed incomes and must budget accordingly, so the cost of braces is an important issue when deciding whether to seek corrective alignment.  Cost is determined by the choice of braces the patient selects or what type of braces work the best for the individual’s needs.

The bottom line-
People are living longer and are more health conscious.  Quality of life is the goal everyone seems to be striving for.  Our appearances are important in our quest for quality in our lives, and adult braces can only add to our well-being.
Misaligned teeth often prevent proper mastication of food, which can lead to other health problems.  Overcompensation for misaligned teeth can lead to misalignment of our jaws, which can be very painful and even lead to chronic headaches.  Proper dental care should be part of your overall regime in maintaining good health.  Appearance is important, but adult braces also add to our overall well-being.
